Originally developed to attract medical professionals and their families, Glen Meade is by far one of the loveliest subdivisions in Wilmington. Conveniently located off of 17th Street and Oleander Drive, and adjacent to the campus of New Hanover Regional Medial Center, it has long been regarded as one of the Port City's upscale neighborhoods.
Large, deep lots, sidewalks and plenty of tasteful landscaping, are just a few of the reasons why Glen Meade is so appealing. Mature plantings can include bushels of flowering bulbs such as daffodils and tulips plus Old South favorites like azaleas and dogwoods. It's no wonder Glen Meade is a frequent stop on local garden tours. Stately homes reflect classic architectural styles, including, Williamsburg, Colonial and Georgian. The fact that its development began in the 1960s and continued through the 2000s, is also a testament to Glen Meade's popularity!
Neighborhood homes are stately and elegant and were obviously designed for discriminating homebuyers who are interested in more than the basics. Average square footage is 3000+ and there are several properties in Glen Meade covering three stories. Interiors tend to be luxuriously appointed with elegant extras such as crown molding, tray ceilings, polished hardwood floors, granite countertops, tile and marble baths. Many of these homes were built with entertaining in mind, which explains why the kitchen and dining areas are consistently spectacular.
Floor plans are spacious and in addition to living areas, bedrooms and matching baths, most Glen Meade residences have extra spaces, which may easily be transformed into home offices, fitness room, libraries, or truly whatever your heart desires! There are also numerous spots for entertaining and relaxing outdoors in the way of porches, decks and patios. A few Glen Meade homes even boast impressive outdoor kitchens. Depending on the size of the home, prices can start in the mid $400s and surpass the $1 million mark (subject to change).
If Glen Meade sounds like the type of neighborhood you've been dreaming of, seeing it in person is the only way to really appreciate its many charms.
